Travel Games

Traveling is often long and tedious and soon boredom can cause strain, especially if you are traveling with kids. To keep them and yourself entertained travel games are a good way to pass time. Even other family members can join and this makes the travel games much more exciting for the kids. On long journeys, it is possible to pass much time by being creative in coming up with travel games and engaging others in it.

Word Games

1. To tell a word, with the first letter of the word the previous player had come up with.
2. To find three words with a particular letter
3. Make them come up with a name, a place, a thing and an animal with a given alphabet.
4. Give them an alphabet, make them observe the surroundings through which they pass and make a competition of who will spot something with that alphabet and call it out aloud first.

Memory And Educational Games

1. Try to get others to recollect the order of things/items they have observed.
2. If you are traveling on a familiar route, see if the kids can come up with answers to questions like “What is the name of the next town?” or “Name something significant in a particular place on the route you will travel?”
3. Test the knowledge of everyone in the party by creating a quiz like “Who climbed Mount Everest first?” or “Who invented computer?”
4. The first one to identify the maximum and minimum number of vehicles of a state that they had seen on their route.
5. Look out the window and select something you see randomly and find out if they can come up with some interesting ways to use the selected object. For instance, if a flower is the chosen object, come up with ideas like opening a flower shop or giving the flowers as a bunch to someone dear or decorate a party or a table top with that particular flower or anything you can come up with.

Observing Games

These are travel games to improve the observation power of your kids and to make them aware of their surroundings.

1. Ask the kids to observe the license plates of the vehicles they pass and see who is the first one to recognize the state in which it is registered and its capital or something significant associated with the place.
2. For smaller kids, make them pick up something like a green car, a red flower, a white building, a yellow billboard or something you come up with

Other Travel Games

1. Switch radio stations and see who will come up with the name of the performing artist. 
2. Bring some items to create arts or crafts and keep the kids engaged.
3. Somebody start a story. After a few lines another person will develop it for a few lines then another person picks up the thread of the story and so on.
4. Play chess.
5. Take a mini DVD player or video games with you.
